A friend from Alaska was celebrating a milestone birthday in Portland, which tempted Matt to hop a flight out and carve some turns on nearby Mt. Hood. A buddy from Utah flew out to join the fun, and fun was had. Believe it or not, it had been almost 8 years (seriously!) since Matt hit the slopes on downhill skis, but he found it came right back. The conditions on Mt. Hood resembled beautiful late April skiing more than like January, but there were no complaints--it was gorgeous. The birthday was a blast as well.
Don't worry, Sam was well cared for. He spent a few days in Albany with his Nona and Papa, and a few days with his Mama (one more than expected as a storm in the NE delayed Matt's return by about 12 hours).
